Spindle drives, sometimes also called lifting spindle motors, push out a push rod in the longitudinal direction of the drive by turning a threaded spindle installed inside and can sometimes apply very high forces. This type of construction is virtually the standard for skylight domes, arcade rooflights and all other horizontally installed and upward opening window elements.

Chain drives push a back-stiff chain out of the housing at a 90° angle. Back stiff means that the chain can only bend in one direction. For this reason, chain drives on windows or skylights can exert a lot of force when extending. The common belief that chain drives can only pull is therefore wrong. The design ensures that these drives do not obtrusively dominate the window, but lie flat on the frame and integrate unobtrusively into the overall view. In rack drives, a gear motor mounted on the side pushes a steel rack out or in via a pinion. The rack is guided in a tube. The cross-section of the steel push rod is usually 12 x 12mm. The electronics of these drives is quite insensitive to dirt encapsulated in a robust gear housing made of aluminum or plastic. Because the motor is mounted on the side, the overall length is relatively short.

Pneumatic cylinders are often used in SHEV systems. They do not require an electrical connection, but are operated with CO2 (up to 60bar for SHE) or compressed air (up to 10bar for ventilation). There are SHEV systems equipped with pneumatic cylinders for one direction only (OPEN). The advantage of this is that only one compressed air line is required. After a release, the system must then be closed again by hand. Pneumatic cylinders are available in many different versions. They differ, for example, by the connection (at the cylinder head. at the -foot, in the middle, ...), the size (the larger the diameter, the higher the force), the stroke length, or whether the piston rod is mechanically verreigelt. Steel cylinders filled with CO2 (carbon dioxide) are used in local releases (TAG) of smoke and heat extraction systems or in alarm boxes. They differ in filling quantity (weight) and connection thread. Common thread sizes are 1/2 UNF, M14 x 1.25 and M18 x x1.5. CO2 cylinders are available with or without a riser tube. A riser tube prevents icing when cylinders are installed vertically, ensuring that the cylinder volume is released more quickly. We also carry refilled cylinders. These may only have visual defects, but are technically in no way inferior to a "new" CO2 cartridge. Of course, refilled cylinders are approved and may be used without any problems.
CO2 cylinders must be checked annually. The weight is checked with the help of a scale (tare is indicated on each cylinder) and a visual inspection is carried out.
Alarm boxes, often also called emergency release stations or CO2 emergency release boxes, are mounted at eye level in the area of access points and are used to trigger SHEV groups. In the event of a fire, the CO2 cylinder inserted in the alarm box is pricked by a lever valve and the gas flows into the piping system. This opens SHEVs (smoke and heat exhaust ventilators) so that a low-smoke layer can form and people can escape to safety or rescue workers can fight the source of the fire. The more CO2 is required, the larger the alarm boxes. That is why there are different sizes. Most systems are "open only" systems. This means that the skylight domes or arcade rooflights are only opened with CO2 and must be closed again manually after the fire. "Open/Close" alarm boxes have a second lever with which the system can be closed again. Our alarm boxes are also available with electric or pneumatic remote triggering.
Pushbutton valves are used when pneumatically operated SHEV systems are not only to be opened with CO2 in case of fire, but also ventilation is used. For daily ventilation, compressed air is used as the medium. When the corresponding button is pressed, the compressed air is directed to the pneumatic cylinder and opens or closes it. For electrical control, the pushbutton valves are also available with 12V/DC, 24V/DC or 230V/AV connection. Thus they behave like a solenoid valve and can be integrated into the building control system (keyword: Smart Home).
Pure ventilation systems (without priority connection for CO2) are actuated with the pushbutton valve TV N6-5/2, the pushbutton valve in the TV N6-7/3 version has a CO2 priority connection and is thus used in SHEV systems.
Please note that the "old" version with the type designation "TV 06" is not mechanically compatible with the new version "TV N6". So if you need a pushbutton valve as a replacement and want to install it in the existing valve box, it will not fit (the hole spacing for the pushbuttons has changed).
Thermal releases, often called thermal initiators or TAGs, are used to trigger a smoke and heat exhaust ventilator (SHEV) locally in the event of a fire. When the ambient temperature of the TAG exceeds a certain threshold, a glass vial bursts and the CO2 cylinder is pricked. This causes the gas to flow into the pneumatic cylinder and opens the smoke vent. The glass vials are available for different temperatures. The most common are 68°C and 93°C. Care must also be taken to ensure the correct diameter for the glass bulbs. The thermal activators differ in their use (installation in systems with open-close cylinders, "open only" systems, with/without venting...) and in the connection thread for the CO2 cartridge.
TAGs can also be triggered remotely. For example, with 24V, pneumatic or pyrotechnic elements (compressed gas generator, compressed gas release). There is also the possibility of a "triggered" feedback. Here, a spring-loaded contact senses the state of the glass bulb and closes a contact when a local SHEV release has occurred.
Compressed gas generators are pyrotechnic elements and are used for remote triggering of thermal tripping devices. When a high current flows for a short time (a few milliseconds), they are ignited and a small metal piston shoots out of the housing. This destroys the glass bulb, causing the RWG (smoke and heat exhaust ventilator) to trip. They may only be connected to control panels that are suitable for this purpose. "Normal" 24V SHEV control panels" are not suitable for this purpose.
Quick exhaust valves are used to vent pressurized systems more quickly and thus allow cylinders to run faster.
Check valves allow the medium (CO2, compressed air, oil, water, ...) to flow through in one direction only.

These values can then be read out and further processed via analog inputs of microcontrollers, PLCs or other controllers. Load cut-offs are electronic modules that ensure that drives switch off correctly when they are blocked or have reached the end position. If several drives are to be switched off simultaneously and in front of each other, tandem switch-offs are used.
