LAMILUX skylight domes are manufactured in Germany.

They are:

   - tested and classified according to DIN EN 1873 - 2014 (first European product standard for skylight domes)
   - have a tested watertightness under heavy rain and storm (Driven Rain Index DRI up to 14.7 m²/s)
   - Preventive fire protection: compliance with DIN 18234 for prevention of fire propagation on the roof without additional measures

The high quality GRP upstands in closed, torsionally stiff design white pigmented through, and flat, elastic bonding flange are equipped with thermal insulation made of PU rigid foam.

The skylight domes are delivered to you in exemplary packaging directly from the manufacturer. For more information on delivery, please visit  Shipping information.

   Dimensions and definitions

  • OKD: Clear ceiling opening; dimension upper edge of ceiling opening; this is the order size
  • Skylight dome dimension: Upper clear width, 18cm smaller than OKD
  • Upstand height: 15cm, 30cm, 40cm, 50cm or 70cm
  • Flange width: lower support width of the upstand
  • Upstand: lower part of the skylight dome, which is integrated and sealed into the roof
  • Toppart: movable part of the skylight dome with built-in glazing

BASIC STRUCTURE OF A SKYLIGHT DOME

structure lamilux skylight dome

   SKYLIGHT DOME SIZE

Skylight domes are available in many different sizes. All specifications refer to the OKD dimension. This is the clear ceiling opening, the dimension of "the hole" in the roof. Manufacturers often have different designations for this: OKD (upper edge of ceiling), ULW (lower clear width), etc. However, they always mean the same thing.

Should you (have to) install the skylight dome in a stairwell in order to realize a SHEVS, please observe the specifications regarding "geometric opening area". Apart from the fact that the dome opens wide enough, the clear opening area must of course also have the required opening area. Geometric opening areas of 1m² are customary according to the state building code.

This is where the upper clear width (OLW) comes into play. Because the upstand tapers towards the top, this is smaller than the clear width of the ceiling opening.

Concrete example: You need to realize 1m² of geometric opening area, so you need a skylight dome with a minimum nominal size of 120cm x 120cm. The upper clear width is then exactly 1m².

   GLAZING UPPER SHELL

Lamilux skylight dome glazing top shell

The upper shell can be clear or opal.

Advantages of opal (milky, cloudy) top shells:

- no risk of glare in direct sunlight
- dirt is less visible
- uniform light distribution

Advantages of clear top shells:

- Visibility to the outside
- higher light transmittance

You have to make the decision. Although your first thought will certainly be "clear", you should still consider the advantages of an opal top shell.

   TOP SHELL MATERIAL

There are two different materials to consider for the top shell: acrylic (PMMA) or polycarbonate (PC).

Acrylic (acrylic glass) is also known as Plexiglas. Acrylic glass is much more impact resistant than "real" glass and has a high light transmission.

Advantages of acrylic (PMMA):

- slightly higher light transmission

Advantages of polycarbonate (PC):

- very impact resistant down to -40°C
- higher impact resistance than acrylic
- does not splinter
- fall-through resistant at the time of installation

   GLAZING VERIANTEN

We have prepared for you variants with acrylic glass, PET and with real glass. The number of shells has a significant impact on thermal insulation. Basically, the more shells, the better the thermal insulation. Lamilux skylight domes are also available in real glass versions. Here, the longevity is certainly the greatest and the heat transmission value (U value) the smallest.

The U value indicates the heat loss in watts at 1m² area and a temperature difference of 1K (1 Kelvin corresponds to one degree Celsius).

   SURFACE

The height of the upstand depends on the roof structure and the relevant regulations (flat roof construction guideline, etc.). The top edge of the dome should always be at least 15cm above the roof waterproofing. Of course, the insulation of the roof also has a decisive influence on the height of the upstand. If the upstand is placed on e.g. trapezoidal sheet metal and a roof insulation thickness of 15cm is installed, the upstand must be at least 30cm high (15cm insulation, 15cm above the water-bearing layer).

   VENTILATED SKYLIGHT DOME

The skylight domes are delivered in the "Ventilable locked" version. In this version, an opening unit can be easily retrofitted.

   OPENING UNITS

Lamilux skylight domes are delivered complete with upstand and mounted top section. The upper part is mounted on the upstand at the factory. Equipped with hinges on one side and a latch on the opposite side, the dome is tightly closed when delivered. The dome is equipped in such a way that the drive sets available under accessories can be mounted in just a few steps. This turns the rigid dome into a ventilated one.

Under accessories you can choose among different electric drives.

- Electric drive in 230V version
- or 24V (RWA) version

The manual drive is a spindle with an eyelet into which a hand crank rod is hooked (please order separately, not included in the scope of delivery). By turning the spindle, it pushes out approx. 28cm and thus opens the skylight dome.

Electric drives require either a voltage of 230V AC or 24V DC. The latter is usually used in SHEV systems. If you only use the electric drive for ventilation, 230V is the better choice.

Spindle drives vary in length depending on stroke length and protrude downward into the room. Please be sure to observe the drawings that can be found with the respective drives and skylight domes. These show the proportions to scale.

The stroke length indicates the maximum opening width. Of course, intermediate positions are possible: simply release the button.

   FALL-THROUGH GRILLE

It is possible to order a spot welded grille pre-mounted in the upstand at the factory as an accessory option. This makes your skylight dome with plastic glazing permanently fall-through-proof according to GS-Bau 18. This makes working on the roof much safer.
