Half-timbered house with exterior basement

How to benefit from electric cellar hatch drives

A wine cellar located outside the house - Tobias Höpfner and his wife made this dream come true. In keeping with the style of the restored half-timbered house, it had to be something special: a cellar hatch that integrates with the terrace. To open the hatch as comfortably as possible, an electric drive was required. This is invisible from the outside due to the internal mounting and allows the floor hatch to be fully opened within two minutes. In the following, we reveal which advantages electric basement hatches offer and tell you more about the project "Fachwerktraumhaus".

The project - in an interview with Tobias Höpfner

"Our small half-timbered house in the Nordheide - yes, that is our dream house." This is what Tobias Höpfner tells us as we marvel at the house, which stands all alone in a small section of forest. Together with his wife, he restored the house, which was built around 1890, and the associated exterior cellar. We wanted to know more about the old cellar and asked Tobias a few questions in an interview:

What was the basement situation like when you purchased the house?

"The problem was that the exterior basement was an old boiler room with oil tanks. We wanted to get rid of those if possible, of course, and then we switched to gas. Now we have a gas boiler outside. Also, I think the best idea for a basement is a wine cellar. That's why we fulfilled our dream of a wine cellar and created additional storage space for wine. Of course, there is also room for a few potatoes there. (laughs) We then built a wooden terrace on top of the whole basement. If possible, we wanted it to be one level. We wanted a basement hatch that looked the same as the terrace, so you have a nice entrance that's visually aligned."

How did you come up with the idea of installing an electric operator and what was important to you?

"Before we had the electric basement hatch operator, you had to struggle and open the hatch with a lot of force and two people. Of course, that's not quite the nice way to do it in the long run. We wanted it to be easy to work, easy to open the hatch with remote control and not give you a backache every time. It simply had to be comfortable. For me, of course, it was also important that the appearance on the terrace is impeccable - that you do not see that a lifting device is installed. The drive is now hidden in the basement walkway in such a way that you can't see it from the outside."

Electric damper actuators

Electric actuators can be used for many types of dampers. For example, they can be used to open basements, attic hatches, all the way to pool dampers. Often these are very difficult to open applications. With the help of an electric drive, we can easily open any type of hatches/hatches by radio or switch. What to consider when driving a basement hatch depends on several factors. These include, for example, the length and width, weight and opening angle of the hatch.

For the installation of a drive you can become the electrician of your confidence. For all DIY lovers, there are some assembly videos for various items on our Youtube channel.

All hatch owners we gladly advise to find the right article.
