Extractor hood and wood stove
How electric window drives can become vital
Our own four walls - for most people a place of retreat, the safe haven in our lives. At home, we do everything to protect our loved ones and ourselves as well. Many living concepts today have an open living space with kitchen and stove or fireplace. But what many do not know about this: The combination of stove and range hood can have drastic consequences. In the following, we will explain the problem and show you how to solve it easily and safely.
The problem
We all know that our body needs oxygen to control all vital processes. However, if you have a stove and an exhaust hood in an open room, it can be life-threatening if used at the same time. If the air (our oxygen) that is transported outside by the negative pressure of the range hood cannot flow in, the fire in the stove continuously produces carbon monoxide.
This is where it gets critical: Since carbon monoxide is colorless and odorless, we often notice the outflow much too late or sometimes not at all. Too much carbon monoxide can lead to poisoning - too long unnoticed even to death.
For this reason, the German Firing Ordinance (FeuVO) requires forced ventilation. In concrete terms, this means that manually opening a window is not enough.
The solution
So the conditions say that a continuous flow of fresh air must be granted during the simultaneous use of the cooker hood and the fireplace.
We were able to implement the solution to the problem with our customer Margot S.. An electric window drive is connected to the extractor hood. As soon as Margot switches on the cooker hood, the window also opens automatically by means of the drive.
Another possible variant would be to set the extractor hood so that it can only be operated when the window is already open. With the help of a push-button switch, the window drive opens and closes without any problems.
For the installation of both variants, it is advisable to hire the electrician of your confidence.
We will be happy to advise you on finding the right drive for your window.
