Automatic temperature control

In times of Homematic & Co. the question often arises, which parts are needed to automate window drives. The first thing to define is what "automation" actually means. Usually our customers want to make the automatic window opening dependent on:

  • Temperature
  • Humidity (rel. humidity)
  • Weather (wind, rain)

In numerous consultations, we also find that additional manual operation via manual pushbuttons is completely overlooked. Therefore, in this article I would like to discuss the most common application:

Depending on the indoor temperature, the window should open or close, but in case of rain, it is essential that it always closes. In indoor (living) rooms, our conservatory control is always used, optionally with connected rain sensor.

The conservatory control offers a knob to set the desired indoor temperature (for example 20°C), a switch for manual operation (open, close, stop) and a switch to specify whether the control works in automatic mode or manual operation is desired. Thus, if the manual/auto switch is set to "Auto", the windows will open or close automatically depending on the temperature. If the Manual/Auto switch is set to "Manual", you can only open or close the windows manually.

If the rain sensor is connected, the windows always close when it rains - regardless of whether the system is running in automatic or manual mode.

The connection diagrams show exemplarily our spindle drive JMBB 500-300 LA. Of course all actuators offered by us with 230V supply voltage work in the same way. The wire colors of the drives are different depending on the manufacturer, however, the supplied data sheets or printed wiring diagrams always show which wires have the respective function.

By the way, the conservatory control is not suitable for damp rooms or industrial halls. The intended area of application is - as the name already suggests - the living area. Of course, we also have solutions for other areas of application, just contact us if you have any questions.
